Rolex Pre-Explorer Ovettone Ref 6098

The Rolex Big Bubbleback watches are known by their Italian nickname Ovettone (big egg) due to the exceptional depth of caseback, which was domed to accommodate the automatic rotor.

We love these 36mm steel watches and, in fact, the reference 6098 is known as the Pre-Explorer as it was the watch supplied by Rolex and used on the successful Everest expedition in 1953 that led to the launch of the iconic Explorer watch.

Our example is in beautiful, original condition with a strong monoblock case, where the mid-case and bezel are one piece.
The dial has taken on a lovely patina that we would describe as crème brûlée, with no lume and an applied gold coronet, hour markers and hands.
The watch has the original, down Super Oyster crown, which is a nice touch as many have been replaced over the years with regular Oyster crowns.
The watch is fitted with a cool Rolex USA so-called coffee bean Jubilee bracelet , we think this is an awesome look !
