The Inside Story
The Explorer has been in the Rolex catalogue since 1953 – that’s over seven decades! In the 1990s Rolex introduced the sapphire glass Explorer with applied 3-6-9 numerals, where before they had always been painted. This is the second series of sapphire Explorers, in a 36mm case with no-lug-holes case and the last version of the dials, which were marked ‘SWISS MADE’ at 6 o’clock.
The watch remains in outstanding condition with a strong case with thick even lugs and the watch even has its original case back sticker! The watch comes on a superb condition Oyster bracelet reference 78690, with a clasp stamped ‘OP 12’ and solid endlinks. This awesome Explorer has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
