The important micro JLC movement…In a world where interesting Cartier pieces are some of the hottest pieces on the market, we have a truly rare and important example of an early Cartier France watch! This small cocktail watch houses one of the most important horological movements of the 20th century, the Jaeger Le-Coultre calibre 101 Duoplan. Built on two levels to enable it to be kept tiny, the complete movement is the same size as a sharpened point on a pencil !!
The movement contains 98 parts and measures just 14x4.8x3.4mm and was so difficult to make that only 50 were produced each year- And it weighs less than 1 gram! The lightweight movement is more than made up for by the heavyweight of the platinum Cartier Paris case, which features the winding crown on the back – these watches are known as backwinders. The watch has a white dial signed CARTIER France and features super cool tiny blued steel hands.
The watch is fitted with its original leather strap and also the original deployment, which interestingly is made out of red gold. The original rare Cartier box is also included which makes this special watch even more of a collector item.
Queen Elizabeth wore a similar watch for her coronation in 1953, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 101. This watch has the world’s smallest movement and it was housed in an elegant diamond bracelet.
