Let's be honest, nobody needs a gold diving watch, right?

So, what was Rolex thinking at the end of the 1960s when they introduced the new reference 1680/8 in 18k gold? Initially available only with black matte dials, this model saw the introduction of soleil blue dials in the early 1970s. We have just that—a blue soleil-finished dial that has, over time, transformed into a rich honey brown color.

Just take a look; it’s like peering into a bottle of fine bourbon or whiskey (or whisky, depending on which country you’re viewing the bottle from!). The hands and the lume in the nipple indexes have developed a warm yellow hue, beautifully complementing the dial.

The case is in excellent condition, as is the 18k gold Oyster bracelet, with no stretch to speak of. Completing this masterpiece is a bezel insert that has faded to a light blue, much like a perfect frame around a piece of artwork—truly awesome!

The watch has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
